Nothing: to be done. Performance in public space + publication
48 Stunden Neukölln Berlin, 2019

"Nothing: to be done." starts with a claim:  we – the inhabitants of cities in neoliberal era – lost our ability to wait. The intersection of modern urbanism enhancing efficient movement across the city  and media culture transmitting constant flow of information into our minds,  rendered waiting into an unwanted situation to be avoided.

The aim of this project is to regain the lost human ability of waiting in public spaces as an essential element of our everyday lives!

in order to do so, we need to reeducate ourselves and practice. Therefore, we take the common situation of waiting for a train as a site for experimentation and the metro station as a laboratory.

In the pursuit of waiting, we turn to the master of gaps and lingering, silences and absences, Samuel Beckett, and his great play Waiting for Godot.

In a process of collaborative writing a group of artists transformed the first act of the play into a WAITING MANUAL, a selection of imperatives and scores exploring the illusive notion of waiting.

Between May and June 2019 we gathered for bi-weekly waiting sessions at the U7 platform, Hermanplatz Berlin. Exploring embodied interpretations for the manual, expermenting with different setups, compositions and ways of being in public space, we developed game-like waiting practices which were finally shared with the audience of the 48 Stunden Neukölln festival.
